Description

Otoplasty can be performed from age 7, once the ear cartilage has reached adult size. In children, the procedure is often motivated by teasing at school.
Otoplasty is covered by health insurance when it corrects bothersome protruding ears before age 16. After this age, the procedure remains the patient's responsibility except in special cases.
With a correct technique, the risk of recurrence is very low (less than 5%). Wearing the protective headband at night for 6 weeks prevents early trauma.
Otoplasty takes 1 to 2 hours depending on complexity. It can be performed under local anesthesia in adults, and general anesthesia in children.
